This mix from Nicole is a wonderful collection of songs and I love it. Lots of old favorites and some great new discoveries. Thanks so much!
1) As Time Goes By - not sure who's performing but if it's the original from the movie, it's Dooley Wilson. Casablanca was one of my first favorite movies, and the song is close to my heart. It's great to have it!
2) The Telephone Hour - from Bye Bye Birdie. Funny and quite a contrast, kind of squawky. Not the one I'll play over and over, but it was fun to hear.
3) All I Ever Need Is You - Sonny and Cher. I LOVE this song! I'd never heard it before, but what a great little pop song. I just can't not sing along with it.
4) I Think I Love You - David Cassidy. Sometimes the worst lyrics make the best pop songs. I think I love so what am I so afraid of? I'm afraid that I'm not sure of a love there is no cure for. There. Is it in your head now too?
5) Cupid - Sam Cooke. What a great song. Really, what else can I say about some of these? :-)
6) I've Got Love If You Want It - Slim Harpo. It might be a threat, it might be a promise. I like Slim Harpo's nasal singing on this rockin' blues tune.
7) I Pity The Fool - Bobby Blue Bland. More blues, but this one is laidback, with a horn section. I used to listen to a blues show every Sunday morning on the public radio station when I lived in Eugene. I miss that. I remember this song from those days.
8) Loving You Is Hell Enough For Me - Rust Farm, from the Limbo soundtrack. "When existence finally ceases, won't you beam me up to Jesus, cause lovin' you is hell enough for me." This is a bluegrass number with a monologue in the middle - hilarious lyrics, catchy tune. I forget that I actually like bluegrass till I hear something like this.
9)You Made Me Love You - Patsy Cline. Awwww, Patsy. What a sweet song.
10) Love Me Or Leave Me - Nina Simone. This is one of the greatest jazz songs ever. I wish I had a better vocabulary to talk about music.
11) It's Been A Long, Long Time - Keely Smith. I'd never heard of Keely Smith. I really like pop songs from the 40s.
12) A Sunday Kind of Love - Etta James. More jazz. Great tune!
13) Since I Met You Baby - Ivory Joe Hunter. Nice, slow, groovin love song based on the 12-bar blues pattern.
14) Can't Help Lovin' That Man - Billie Holliday. The only thing I like better than Billie Holliday's voice is David Sedaris imitating Billie Holliday's voice.
15) What'll I Do? - Frank Sinatra. This is a slow and heavily orchestrated version of this song. It's a lovely song, and I like Sinatra, but this particular combination isn't my favorite.
16) The Very Thought Of You - Nancy Wilson. Nancy Wilson was the first singer I became aware of when I decided I liked jazz, and I had this tape of hers that I played and played and played till it gave out. I'm still attached to the sound of her voice.
17) Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered - Ella Fitzgerald. I love this song, and this version of it.
18) Call Me Irresponsible - Bobby Darin. I only knew Bobby Darin for "Mack The Knife," even though he's my mom's favorite singer. Great tune!
19) You Always Hurt The One You Love - The Mills Brothers. This is one of my all time favorite songs, but I'd never heard the Mills Brothers' version (1944). I really like the simple instrumentation - just a guitar and a bass are all I hear - and the harmonies.
20) I'm In Love With A Girl - Big Star. My friend Alan has more musical taste in common with me than anyone I know, and he really likes this band, Big Star. But I'd never listened to them until now. Now I have to buy me more Big Star music.
21) The Luckiest - Ben Fold. Ben Fold is my pretend boyfriend. Billy Joel used to be my pretend boyfriend. I like piano players. This is a beautiful, beautiful song.
22) Cynically Yours - Amy Rigby. This was nice contrast to the previous! "In a world full of doubt don't know what I'm sure about, but you don't suck, so I'm cynically yours." It made me smile.
23) The More You Ruv Someone - Avenue Q. I'm not a fan of musicals with just a few notable exceptions (My Fair Lady). And I think I could make another exception for this one. According to Wikipedia, Avenue Q is sort of based on Sesame Street, with muppets and people, but also with lots and lots of adult content.
24) You Can Love Yourself - Keb' Mo'. This is another artist I have to buy more of.
25) Moon River - Audrey Hepburn. I just see her sitting in the window by the fire escape. I always thought they should have let her sing in My Fair Lady. This was a perfect closer, bringing the feeling back to the beginning.

Glad you liked it!
Keely Smith is Louis Prima's exwife. She's fantastic.
Avenue Q is fantastic.
